Depending on the target, the tool can remove rooms, floors, wallpaper, transport or an elevator car. Some merged rooms allow partial removal; ordinary rooms are removed as complete rooms.
Select the demolish tool from the tool palette or use the <code>'''X'''</code> or <code>'''Delete'''</code> key. Click or drag over an area that you want to demolish. The rooms, transports, or tiles to be removed will be highlighted in red and the cost/refund amount will be displayed.

Occupied leased rooms require an eviction confirmation before removal. Removing transport that disconnects rooms also produces a confirmation: check the affected rooms and provide an alternative route first.
=== Floors ===
Floor tiles can only be removed if no other floor tile or transport system depends on them for support.

Floors cannot normally be removed from under rooms or transport, while supporting upper floors, or where they are required beside an elevator. Remove dependent objects or redesign their support before removing the floor. The last car in an elevator cannot be removed on its own.

You can remove existing elevator cars by demolishing a car. You may not remove the last car as all elevators require at least one car to function.

=== Refunds and costs ===
With refunds enabled, a room still under construction receives a full construction refund. A completed room also receives a full refund within one in-game day of construction; older rooms receive 50%. Burned rooms receive no construction refund. Demolition charges are separate, so the net cash change can be smaller than the refund. Session settings can disable refunds or demolition charges; use the displayed preview for the actual action.
If refunds are enabled, most build items will refund half the construction cost after being built for one full day. A full refund will be given within the first day of construction.

For example, an older room with a $100,000 construction investment and a $10,000 demolition charge gives a $50,000 refund and costs $10,000 to remove: the net cash gain is '''$40,000'''. These are illustrative amounts, not a quote for every room type.

After a fire, empty burned floor tiles can be restored with the demolish tool's rubble-clearing action. A burned room must be dealt with through its room controls or removal before clearing the floor beneath it. See [[Disasters and infestations]] for recovery.

Construction

Floors

Your tower is constructed of floor tiles. Floor tiles must be placed in a location where they are supported: anywhere on the ground floor, above an existing floor tile if building above ground, or below another tile if underground. When building rooms and placing wallpaper tiles, floor tiles will automatically be placed.

Floors have a minimum separation distance. Building too close to another floor tile will automatically merge floor spans. You can demolish built floors. However, the minimum spacing distance still applies.

Floor tiles can be built by clicking and dragging. If you want to build multiple floors at once, use the shift key while dragging.

Tip: You can use the f key to select the floor tool.

Rooms

Rooms must be placed at a location where their floor tiles are fully supported. Multiple rooms can be built on the same floor by clicking and dragging. You can build multiple rooms across multiple floors using the shift key while dragging.

Certain rooms, such as the vending machine, can be relocated. Using the cursor tool, you can click and hold the room to relocate it.

Wallpaper tiles

You can decorate your floors with wallpaper tiles. These are decorative and also boost the environmental score in the area. Lobbies are treated as areas decorated with the lobby wallpaper tile.

Most wallpaper tiles can be customized with custom colors. Use the query tool to change the color of an entire wallpaper section.

Tip: You can use the picker tool to copy existing wallpaper styles and their colors.

Skybridges

You can join two towers together with a skybridge. Select the skybridge item and hover/click somewhere between two separate floor tiles to build a skybridge.

Demolition

Select the demolish tool from the tool palette or use the X or Delete key. Click or drag over an area that you want to demolish. The rooms, transports, or tiles to be removed will be highlighted in red and the cost/refund amount will be displayed.

Floors

Floor tiles can only be removed if no other floor tile or transport system depends on them for support.

Elevator cars

You can remove existing elevator cars by demolishing a car. You may not remove the last car as all elevators require at least one car to function.

Refunds and costs

If refunds are enabled, most build items will refund half the construction cost after being built for one full day. A full refund will be given within the first day of construction.
