Express Elevators are 6-tile passenger shafts with the same car, upgrade, service-floor, and parking controls as other passenger elevators. They cost more to build and maintain than Basic Elevators.

Because of express elevators' high top speed, you may wish to reduce the number of floors serviced by express elevators so that they are able to reach their top speed. Having an express elevator stop on every floor will reduce its efficiency.

An express elevator is the fastest and highest capacity elevator system in the game and can span over 120 floors. Express elevators are also more expensive to build and operate.

You may have up to 8 cars per shaft which may be reduced, depending on your map and star rating.

Because of express elevators' high top speed, you may wish to reduce the number of floors serviced by express elevators so that they are able to reach their top speed. Having an express elevator stop on every floor will reduce its efficiency.

Upgrades

Elevators can be upgraded from the Configuration tab. Upgrades have two stages:

  1. You can upgrade the elevator system up to 5 levels. An upgraded elevator system allows cars to also be upgraded, up to the elevator system's level. Each system upgrade costs 50% of the system construction price. Each level increases the system maintenance multiplier by 25% of its base amount.
  2. Upgrade each car separately, up to the elevator system's current level. Each car upgrade costs 25% of the car construction price.

Every car level increases that car's maximum speed and acceleration by 25% of their base values, and increases capacity by the same percentage (rounded to a whole passenger). At level 5, a fully upgraded car has 225% of its base speed, acceleration and capacity.

Strategy

Use Express Elevators to connect distant clusters or to bypass intermediate floors, not as a replacement for local access. Restrict service floors deliberately and retain another route for skipped floors; otherwise riders still need a way to complete their trip.
