Use this guide to install and enable an existing content pack. For authoring, see Creating mods; for file formats and compatibility details, see Modding.
Install a local pack
- Open Mods → Create from the title screen, then use Open mods folder in the Edit step to reach the correct local folder.
- Put the downloaded pack folder directly inside that mods directory. The pack's
manifest.jsonmust be at its root, not hidden inside another nested folder. - Open Mods and enable the pack. Restart the game so the content catalog reloads.
On a standard Windows installation, the local directory is normally %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\2D Tower\mods\. Use the game's folder button to locate it when the installation differs.
Use a Steam Workshop pack
Subscribe to the item through Steam Workshop. Steam manages its installation folder. New subscriptions start disabled: enable the pack in Mods and restart the game. Keep Workshop items in Steam's managed location.
When a pack or save does not load
| Symptom | First check |
|---|---|
| Local pack is absent | A direct subfolder of the local mods directory must contain manifest.json.
|
| Installed content is unavailable | Enable it in Mods, then restart after installation or any selection change. |
| Pack fails validation | Read the reported error and check the pack's dependencies. Authors can use Creating mods and Modding. |
| Save reports missing or incompatible content | Install and enable the original required packs, with matching compatibility versions and referenced content IDs. A similarly named pack does not substitute for the required identity. |
Saves record pack identities, compatibility versions and Workshop IDs. Keep the packs needed by a save available when updating or disabling mods.
