The Hotel Front Desk is the operational hub for hotel rooms. It is visited by hotel guests checking in to your hotel in the evening as well as guests checking out the next morning.

The time taken to check in or check out each guest depends on the number of hotel staff.

Operating costs

The infobox lists base building maintenance. Staff wages are additional: $500 per worker per day. The default two workers therefore add $1,000 per day. Staffing can be adjusted from one to five workers to match guest volume.

Strategy

Place the Front Desk on a highly accessible floor, ideally near the main arrival route, and keep enough staff for guest volume.

Check the check-in and check-out times and adjust the number of workers accordingly.

Hotel Rating

Hotel rating is based on your hotel front desk's evaluation. It takes into account the following aspects:

Starts at star count Evaluation item Scoring range
Check-in -3 to +3 points
Check-out -3 to +3 points
Hotel rooms -10 to +10 points
Commute -10 to +10 points

The check in/out times, the average Hotel room evaluation for all hotel rooms managed by the Front Desk as well as the commute to and from the Front Desk are factors in your hotel rating.

Attracting bookings

Hotel guests come from a regional overnight-travel market, separate from permanent tenant prospects and daytime shoppers. Your tower competes with outside hotels for a share of those travelers.

Stars, recent tower population, hotel quality and hotel advertising affect that share. Hotel quality uses front-desk ratings weighted by the rooms they serve. Adding equally rated rooms or another equally rated desk does not multiply attraction; it provides capacity to serve bookings. A hotel without measured ratings starts with a modest quality estimate so it can attract its first guests. Once measured ratings exist, adding unreviewed rooms does not erase a poor record.

The demand display distinguishes regional travelers, the tower's capture share, expected bookings, available rooms and unserved opportunities. If the tower attracts more booking requests than it can serve, improve eligible room capacity and operations. If many rooms stay vacant, improve quality and attraction rather than assuming that more rooms create more travelers.

Hotel advertising improves attraction to existing travelers; it does not create regional travelers or guarantee that bookings rise by the advertised percentage. Tourism events and VIP outcomes can affect travel activity. Ordinary weather changes daytime visitors, not hotel bookings.

VIP Visit

A VIP may visit your hotel at random. Alternatively, you may request for a VIP visit in the Market Demands window for a fee. A good VIP visit will temporarily increase visitors to your hotel.

Troubleshooting

Distinguish insufficient room capacity from weak traveler attraction in the demand display. For failed check-in or cleaning, check staff and routes. See Hotel guide and Troubleshooting.
